Not A Summer Person.

I hate summer, to be honest. I hate dressing. I hate the heat. I hate sweaty people getting aggressively close to you when you’re walking down the street.

Call me lame, or whatever, but I think I’m one of those people who are not really excited when the summer comes. There are lots of reasons why I don’t really like summer, some of them because:

  • Sometimes the weather can be very hot and gives “prick” to my skin. Although I was born and once lived in a tropical country, that doesn’t mean that it easier for me to cope up with the heat. Different with the situation in Indonesia, I feel that the sun here is so aggresive to your skin. To make it worse, I am not a fan of body lotion (nor sunblock on whatever form), but if I didn’t use them I know my skin would suffer a lot from the sun.
  • I (we) cannot keep the food for too long whether outside or inside the fridge. During cooler period (winter or spring and autumn when the sun lay a bit low), we normally can keep some leftover food or sauces in the fridge for a week or so. Now since the weather is getting warm, even the jam – which we kept in the fridge with a close lid – got a bit contaminated and got a “schimmel” (mold/fungus) on top of it! This also happened with breads that we kept outside the fridge. Within 3 days then the bread really need to be checked before you consume it. Same thing with fruits. They become withered also within few days. It really makes us feel that we are wasting our money only to throw things away – not fair 😦
  • I have quite hyper sensitive nose when it comes to smelly people. Since “warmth” is a good friend of them then spotting someone who affected by the “sun, sweat, and onion” is so easy to be done when the season comes. And to make it more crazy, before the lesson in our dancing class, there is always a zumba class – which means: extra SWEAT in the room, people! πŸ˜‚
  • The high season of everything which resulting overpriced tickets (and accomodation, and anything related to your holiday/vacation) everywhere! I have 2 kids who still sit in the basisschool (elementary level) and my husband’s holidays are attached to what they called as “bouwvak” (working days and holidays for workers in certain region in a year). Plus one toddler who is about to reach his second milestone within months (welcome to full price flight ticket next year son – sniff), can you imagine how much cash we need if we decide to go to mudik in the summer? Plus, in order to make the holiday not only about visiting family but also a real “holiday” that means we need to prepare extra cash for extra trip we want to do at the destination country.
  • Bicyclists here are going crazy whenever the weather is nice. I mean, you can literally see them almost in every corner of the street. I don’t mind at all with that, but the thing is that cyclists here are mostly so reckless and don’t care with other people (or vehicles) around them on the street. To make it worse, most of them act as if they have nine lives – just like a cat – and almost none of them wear safety equipment (such as helmet). For example, they go cycling side by side whether on a main road or on the small one (uncool!), using mobile phone while cycling, do not giving any sign when they want to go to certain directions, and other things that make my mind goes like “ok…whaa?”.
  • The garbage – especially the organic one – also goes rotten and creates bad smell faster during summer. And usually this will lead to more insects and flies and bugs around the backyard/house (which I don’t like!). Luckily the mosquitos here are not as barbaric as ones in Indonesia 😁
  • Unlike past years, this year I had an issue with what they called as “hooikoorts” or hay fever. Usually the fever started to come during the spring, and when you have bad luck it will lasts until summer. The cause of the hay fever is mostly the pollen (from flowers or grass). In my case, most likely it caused by the grass, since everytime I water my grass in the backyard I started to sneeze and had runny nose.

Well, summer is not that bad actually. You can do fun things as well during summer, picnic and BBQ for instance 😊 also, daylight is longer during summer, which means you feel that you have more time to do more things in a day 😁

Makanya aku males masak kalau summer. Tapi kalau sekarang musti masak, kalau nggak bisa ada yang ga makan πŸ˜…

  3. Same here.. Jemur baju 1 jam aja kering.. Gak heran Australia adalah salah satu negara dgn penderita kanker kulit tertinggi..

  5. Aku juga benernya ngga terlalu suka panas, pas pulkam ke Indonesia aja pasti ngeluh nggak enak semua. Pake AC ngga enak, pake kipas angin apalagi, tp ngga pake serasa kaya neraka.

    Hang in on there ya.
